Combining my journalism background and passion for animal rights, I aim to inform, illuminate and inspire our human species to be better stewards to our Earth and all of its furry, finned and four-legged friends. There is no cage, tank or factory farm I won’t tackle to give a voice to our fellow animals. Of course, when there’s an adorable puppy video that the world just needs to see, you can bet I'm wagging my tail to share it with you too. Read more about Amanda Lindner Read More
Described as the “world’s saddest zoo” and a “prison” for animals, the Grandview Mall Ocean World, located in a Chinese shopping mall, is a sad excuse for a wildlife habitat. After a video report by Animals Asia showed the state the animals were living in, thousands of people began to demand its closure. Now, a petition is calling to make this a reality.
The zoo and aquarium houses two white bears, which are said to be polar bear–brown bear hybrids, five walrus calves, six young beluga whales, and two Arctic wolves. All of the animals are kept in tiny enclosures, with no form of stimulation. Opened on January 9, 2016, the Grandview Aquarium has already drawn accusations of neglect. Visitors to the zoo have witnessed belugas swimming in dirty water, a whale shark being confined to a small tank, and a grouper dying.
At the “World’s Saddest Zoo,” a bear holds its head against a wall as it sits all alone in a tiny enclosure. Five walrus calves are crammed into this tiny pool. A wolf stands at a cage gate, hoping for a way out. Visitors gawk at a white bear, held captive in a glass box.
Life in captivity is no life at all for wild animals, but the scenes at Grandview Mall Ocean World are especially sad. You can help these unfortunate beings by adding your name to a petition to close the zoo, here!
