Having a turkey for dinner is so much more fun when the turkey is a guest, which is why activist and author Karen Dawn decided to rescue two turkeys from a slaughter house for the seventh year in a row and give us all a glimpse of how awesome they are.
The author of “Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals” brought two turkeys who’d been raised for the dinner table home for her Thanksgiving celebration, bathed them and treated them like the guests of honor they should be! Our favorite part? The salon style blow-dry they got in order to dry their downy undercoat. Actually, it seemed like it was their favorite part too.
Naming them Pamela and Alexandra after Pamela Anderson and Alexandra Paul from Baywatch, the video explains why turkeys are such wonderful, sentient beings and why we should all be mindful of their treatment and well-being. The girls will be taken to Farm Sanctuary after the holiday to live the long, peaceful lives they deserve, giving us all yet one more thing to be thankful for this year.
