Pepe, a beautiful wild bird, was found on a street in the center of Santiago, Chile. He was found stressed and depressed, his rescuers from the animal sanctuary, Santuario Igualdad Interespecie, said in a Facebook post. The little bird was so afraid of the outdoors that his rescuers believe he was kept as a pet and escaped – either that, or he was abandoned.
Purchasing an exotic bird is a life-long commitment as these animals can live just as long as humans. Yet, because people have little understanding of how high maintenance birds are, owners often wind up abandoning or surrendering them. Luckily, Pepe will never have to worry about suffering in a small cage or having to survive on the streets. Not only is he now in the care of individuals who will show him only kindness, but he’s also making lots of new friends!
There is a misconception that birds are not as sensitive or intelligent as mammals, but Pepe proves otherwise. Watch him play ball with his kitty friend, run around with his rescued pig sibling, take baths – and of course, get lots of loving cuddles from his hoomans! It’s clear Pepe is loving his new life!
