Poor digestion is something no one wants to deal with, yet we’ve all experienced it at some point or another. Digestion can wreak havoc on your mood and body, and can ruin your social life and sense of well-being. Meg McDonald shared three easy hacks you can use to improve digestion!
@onehealthygut simple, free, effective, and easy digestion tips! #guthealth #guthealingjourney #guthealthmatters
Meg’s first tip is to chew your food well. Although it may seem simple, chewing your food properly can make a difference in digestion. Meg recommends about 20 chews per bite of food. Digestion starts in the mouth, and our body secretes digestive enzymes in the mouth that are responsible for breaking down food. Meg’s second tip is to take your time during meals and eat more slowly. She recommends taking at least 15 minutes to finish a meal. You can also try putting your fork down between bites and avoiding television and your phone during meals. Being more present and focusing on your five senses will help you get out of fight or flight and into rest and digest. Last but not least, Meg recommends avoiding liquids during mealtime. If you drink too during your meals, you may risk diluting the digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid in the body that are needed to properly digest food.
