For me, summer is a time of travel – summer vacations, weddings, and beach trips galore! While I come back feeling rejuvenated, my smile often suffers from all of the summer treats and drinks, and I often feel like I need to spruce it up before the photo ops of the fall season come roaring through. Now, in my old days, my answer would be to pick up some whitening strips or a smile-freshening tooth treatment from the grocery store. As I know now, however, these chemical-laden store-bought treatments often do more harm than good, stripping away enamel with harsh chemical agents and doing a number on your body’s health from all the fluoride.
My answer to both this and the fall dull drums? Fruit toothpaste! No matter how cold or drab the weather outside, this mix will leave your smile shiny and white and your soul feeling, well, tropical!
For one daily treatment, you’ll need:
Put all ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth. Use it to brush your teeth as you normally would, around once per week. Avoid bigger batches with this mix – you want your fruit ingredients to be fresh when you use this Beautifood treatment.
The acids in the strawberry and orange peel blend to gently remove teeth stains. The coconut provides weight and binding to the mixture and also gives it an even more tropical taste. Baking soda does its thing by scrubbing at the teeth and deodorizing your whole mouth.
Even when the nights get cool, you’ll be smiling bright and feeling summery through the snowy months to come. Just don’t blame me if you’re whipping up batches of margaritas and humming Bob Marley while putting up those Christmas decorations!

Baking soda is not good for applying directly to teeth, it’s pretty abrasive and will damage your tooth enamel!
