As fall turns into winter, it is time to bust out your best hiking shoes. But, when you’re vegan it can be hard to find a great pair of shoes that are free from animal products. Luckily, we have researched for you!

1. Vasque

Vasque Women’s Breeze Lt GTX Gore-tex Breathable Hiking Shoes are vegan and waterproof! They’re made of synthetic microfiber and have extended comfort technology. This pair comes in two colors and cost $189.95!

Jessica Buck said, “I love these hiking boots! I bought them for a week-long hiking trip through Palo Duro, CO Springs, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone National Park. I didn’t have to break them in, they were snug, comfortable, and the grip on them is great for hiking steep mountains with different terrain. I usually wear size 6.5 in women’s Nikes (and other running shoes) but the 6.5 were too small and tight. I re-ordered the size up (size 7) and they were perfect, not loose, not too tight, and not too heavy. My ankles felt very sturdy, my feet did not hurt after hiking 13+ miles a day, and my feet stayed dry when it was raining and when walking over puddles of water. I also got lots of compliments on them.”

2. Vasque

While no one on Amazon has reviewed this pair of hiking shoes yet, GeekDad Review wrote an article saying, “If you don’t need the extra coverage and ankle Support provided by boots, these are an awesome option. ”

3. Vasque

Vasque Men’s Breeze Lt Ntx is the high-top version of the hiking shoes listed above. The boots come in three colors: ebony, midnight navy, and multi! They cost $107 to $180 depending on the size and color you purchase.

Jim B said, “These are a lighter-weight shoe than Vasque’s regular hiking shoes. I’ve owned quite a few of their hiking shoes over the years and have found these to be the most comfortable. They’ve lasted about the same length of time too. The only thing I don’t care for is that the toe piece (hood) is designed to breathe to the point that even a little water comes in from just walking through wet grass. Having said that, I bought another pair to replace the ones I wore out. This time I treated that porous part of the shoe with some silicone waterproofing spray (for camping gear) and so far so good!”

4. Xero

Vince said, “These are built well and seem to be a good shoe for someone just starting their minimalist shoe journey. If you have been on the journey for more than a few years, these probably aren’t the shoes for you. I have been wearing minimalist barefoot shoes for a decade, and my feet are splayed out far too far for these shoes. I don’t think you will get the toe box you want for long-time minimalist wearers. I wear an 11 normally in minimalist brands. With these, I ordered an 11 originally. They were way too tight, got a 12 instead, and it is fine but still not right. The toe box is not quite wide enough. The rest of the shoe seems fine, built well, moderately water resistant.”

5. Merrell

Merrell Men’s Moab 2 Mid Gtx Hiking Boots are made with synthetic leather and mesh. They are waterproof with a rubber toe cap and Vibram soles! They come in eleven different colors and cost anywhere from $70 to $100.

Cody said, “I have somewhat long and skinny feet so I need a narrow shoe. The Merrells have always fit me well. I have tried the non-waterproof varieties and they breathe well but obviously aren’t good in wet conditions. The “waterproof” ones don’t breathe at all, leaving me with sweaty stinky feet. The Gore-Tex versions are what you want if you need a waterproof boot. These breathe pretty well and keep your feet dry. The footbed is a little thin and soft, so they are not ideal for extremely rocky or rugged terrain. Good for everyday use, hiking, working, etc. Will buy more when these wear out.”

6. Vivobarefoot

Ari said, “These boots are like the VivoBarefoot Kasana’s with Nike Flyknit material around the ankles. These boots are so comfortable and supportive that I truly enjoy wearing them. I am typically a size 8 in all other brands, but 7.5 in Vivos. These fit amazingly and are immediately ready to wear for extended periods of time. The insole is nice as well.”
