Los Angeles is in crisis. In just two days, devastating wildfires have swept through the city, reducing entire neighborhoods to ashes. The Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, and other fires have destroyed thousands of homes, schools, and businesses, claiming at least five lives.

These are some of the worst wildfires we’ve seen in years, yet the very firefighters who protect us are struggling due to severe budget cuts.

We need your voice! Sign this petition to urge the L.A. City Council to prioritize public safety and restore the fire department’s budget immediately. Lives are on the line.

Several months ago, Mayor Karen Bass and the L.A. City Council cut $17.6 million from the Los Angeles Fire Department’s budget, and the mayor even proposed an additional cut of $5.4 million. This reckless decision has left our firefighters scrambling for resources at a time when they are needed most.

The consequences of these cuts are dire. Reports of empty fire hydrants reveal the harsh reality our brave firefighters face as they battle raging flames with inadequate tools.

Currently, wildfires are consuming over 7,500 acres, fueled by wind gusts reaching 99 mph. These flames do not discriminate, devastating both celebrity enclaves and working-class neighborhoods alike. Over 1,100 structures, including schools, have already been lost, and hundreds of thousands of residents have received evacuation orders. As of now, the fires remain at 0% containment.

A city that can host the Olympics and fund billion-dollar developments must not let essential services deteriorate. It is vital to ensure that the L.A. fire department is fully funded, especially as Climate change makes wildfires more frequent and severe. As temperatures rise and conditions worsen, our firefighters will be more critical than ever.

The L.A. City Council and Mayor must act now to restore full funding to the fire department, equipping them with the resources they need to protect us from future disasters. Sign the petition today!
