Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are seven petitions you should sign this week, including Urge SeaQuest to Shut Down Remaining Locations, Help Send Escaped Lab Monkeys to a Sanctuary, and Tell the EU to Ban Single-Use Disposable Vapes.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Help Shut Down Zoo in England That Has a Long History of Animal Abuse and Neglect

More than 500 animals have died in just three years at South Lakes Safari Zoo in Cumbria, England. The harrowing images and stories from this facility reveal a horrifying pattern of neglect, abuse, and outright disregard for the lives of the animals entrusted to its care.

Here are just a few of the most shocking details:

  • Primates clung to heat lamps, desperate to stay warm in improperly heated enclosures.
  • Rhinos were crammed into stalls so small they couldn’t even turn around.
  • A white rhino was so desperate for a better life they escaped – only to be shot and killed as a consequence.
  • A zebra was found with their hoof trapped in the bars of their pen, reportedly after becoming distressed from being kept indoors. They were then killed.
  • A capybara was discovered covered in bloody cuts after fights broke out, and inbreeding among animals was reportedly common.
  • A school group witnessed two giant otters violently mauling a peacock who had wandered into their enclosure.

Please sign this petition to urge UK authorities to close this facility for good!

2. Help Enshrine the Amazon Rainforest’s Right to Exist into Law

The Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature movement has worked in countries around the world to give animals and entire ecosystems the same rights that human beings have.

So far, the legal strategy has been remarkably successful – and it is time that the new Brazilian president use this same tactic with the Amazon rainforest.

After years of pro-deforestation efforts from the former right-wing president, Lula could work to save what rainforest remains and protect indigenous rights in the area.

Of course, the Amazon Rainforest is essential for human health and well-being: it is a carbon sink, capturing greenhouse gas emissions, and it is home to many indigenous people. In addition to all of those human benefits, the rainforest deserves to exist in its own right.

Please sign this petition to tell Lula to enshrine the Amazon’s right to exist into law!

3. Urge SeaQuest to Shut Down Remaining Locations and Send Animals to Sanctuaries

In a step forward in Animal rights, the SeaQuest location in Fort Worth, Texas, is closing – but this is not enough. With a history of over 80 citations in five years for issues including human injuries and animal deaths, SeaQuest has shown a chronic disregard for the well-being of its captive wildlife and the safety of its visitors.

Please sign this petition to urge SeaQuest to shut down its remaining locations and send all animals to reputable sanctuaries!

4. Help Pass Pennsylvania Bill That Protects Pets from Domestic Violence

Domestic violence doesn’t just harm human victims – pets are often caught in the crossfire. Thankfully, a new bill in Pennsylvania is addressing this issue. House Bill 1210 would allow domestic abuse survivors to include their pets in protection orders. This life-changing measure would grant temporary ownership rights to survivors, protecting their pets from harm. With so many survivors delaying leaving abusive situations out of fear for their pets, this bill must be passed immediately.

Please sign this petition to demand Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro sign this important bill into law today!

5. Help Send Escaped Lab Monkeys to a Sanctuary

Last week, 43 female rhesus macaque monkeys imprisoned in a lab in South Carolina took fate into their own hands and escaped the facility. According to authorities, the monkeys were spotted “exhibiting calm and playful behavior” during the first taste of freedom in their entire lives.

But unfortunately, the lab owner – Alpha Genesis – began rounding them up and bringing them back to captivity.

Please sign this petition to ask that Alpha Genesis give these monkeys a second chance at life at a sanctuary!

6. Tell the Scottish and UK Governments to Ban the Public Sale of Fireworks to Protect Animals

Innocent animals suffer from the distress caused by loud fireworks every year, and sadly, this year is no different. This past Bonfire Night, a three-month-old red panda named Roxie died at Edinburgh Zoo. Vets believe Roxie died due to stress induced by fireworks. Fireworks bring fear, anxiety, and danger to domestic pets and zoo animals, and must be better regulated.

Please sign this petition to demand that the Scottish and UK governments ban the public sale of fireworks and only allow them at organized events!

7. Investigate Woman Who Stuffed Dead Dogs in ‘Caskets Boxes’ and in a Freezer

A horrifying case of animal cruelty has emerged in Middleboro, Massachusetts, where authorities discovered upwards of 27 dead dogs on a woman’s property.

Of the survivors, 17 dogs and two cats crammed into filthy crates in a basement filled with the stench of waste. Some animals were emaciated, struggling to breathe, or completely unresponsive. Two cats were stacked on top of one another in crates, surrounded by empty water and food bowls. In addition to the dogs and cats, authorities also discovered a guinea pig, a turtle, and six horses that were neglected, underweight, and left without regular food or water – saved only by a neighbor who stepped in to feed them.

Police reported that the woman had procured six “casket boxes” and a large freezer, each holding the remains of multiple dogs – clear signs that this brutal treatment was not an accident, but actually premeditated. Shockingly, this is not the first time she has faced animal cruelty charges; she has a past conviction for similar crimes in Michigan.

Please sign this petition to demand an investigation and ban her from living with animals in the future!

8. Justice for Thousands of Workers in Saudi Arabia Who Have Died or Gone Missing

A shocking new documentary from the British broadcasting television network ITV has uncovered something truly appalling — 21,000 workers have died in Saudi Arabia while working on Vision 2030. Another 100,000 workers have gone missing.

Vision 2030 is a government program said to be for the advancement of the country economically, socially, and culturally. In reality, Vision 2030 has been built on a foundation of human rights abuses, exploitation, and violence.

Please sign this petition demanding accountability from the civil engineering firms working in Saudi Arabia!

9. Tell the EU to Ban Single-Use Disposable Vapes

England and Wales recently took a monumental step towards reducing toxic Pollution and safeguarding public health: banning single-use disposable vapes. Single-use vapes are wreaking havoc on our environment. Each week, people toss out five million of these devices.

With batteries containing hazardous chemicals like lithium, battery acid, and mercury, this is more than just simple Pollution. This is also about toxic contamination of our Earth, with chemicals leaking into our land and waterways.

Disposal of these items has a huge impact on the world around us. They’ve been responsible for causing fires in trash receptacles and waste-processing facilities, toxic runoffs, and a sharp rise in dangerous Pollution levels across our communities.

Please sign this petition to tell the EU to ban single-use disposable vapes and to reduce this dangerous waste!
