New Petitions to Sign This Week: Help End Dog Experiments at Wayne State University, Require Compostable Material for Single-Use Food Packaging, Tell the UK’s Government to Not Send Asylum-Seekers to Rwanda, and More!

Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are six petitions you should sign this week, including Help End Dog Experiments at Wayne State University, Require Compostable Material for Single-Use Food Packaging, and Tell the UK’s Government to Not Send Asylum-Seekers to Rwanda.

1. Help End Barbaric Dog Experiments at Wayne State University

Public records reveal that staff at Wayne State University cut open the chests of dogs, insert devices, and tunnel cables and wires under the animals’ skin and out between their shoulder blades. The dogs who survive the intensive surgeries are forced to run on treadmills while experimenters drastically raise their heart rates using implanted devices. This is repeated for days, weeks, or even months—depending on how long each dog can withstand it. By design, every dog will eventually die during the experiments—when their bodies give out or an implanted device breaks or malfunctions.

Many dogs die due to severe internal bleeding, which causes blood to pool around their lungs, making it hard to breathe. Some dogs are found dead in their cages.

Wayne State has wasted more than $15 million in public money on these heart failure experiments since 1991 without providing any benefit to patients. After more than three decades, the university claims the experiments show “potential”—but there is no evidence of progress. Meanwhile, Wayne State has killed hundreds of dogs.

2. Require Compostable Material for Single-Use Food Packaging

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just made an incredible – and incredibly important – announcement. Companies in the U.S. are going to stop creating and using food packaging products that are laden with “forever chemicals” (or “PFAS”).

This is great news for all consumers. Going one step further would be even better: all such products should be explicitly compostable and sustainable.

3. Help Ban Animal-Abusing Woman from Living or Working with Animals Again

She claimed she was running a ‘rescue shelter’ for dogs and ‘pet sitting’ services in Arizona. And since she had worked at the local sheriff’s office, many people were inclined to believe her.

Until a search of her home revealed dead animals stuffed inside her freezer.

She’s currently facing almost 150 counts of animal abuse and neglect. Authorities were only able to rescue 19 animals from her property because so many had already died. Eight of these surviving animals required immediate veterinary assistance to treat infections and other conditions.

Her home was filthy and unsanitary, filled with feces and urine, without even any “clean area for the animals to stand.” She hadn’t even left out any food or water for the animals to eat or drink.

4. Tell the UK’s Government to Not Send Asylum-Seekers to Rwanda

The British government has a shocking and heartless new plan: to send asylum-seekers to Rwanda – on a one-way trip – leaving them exposed to horrific risks for torture and other human rights abuses. Even worse, the plan laid out in the Illegal Migration Act would allow UK authorities to detain children and deport them as well. This is incredibly dangerous.

How can this possibly be a thing anyone would suggest, let alone try to implement?

5. Demand Counseling for Man Who Abandoned and Neglected His Animal Companions

A man in the UK left a small shivering Shih Tzu dog as well as a cat alone at home for multiple months – abandoning the little dog to become hungry, sick, and suffer. Tragically, that neglect ended up costing the pup, Chewie, his life.

By the time veterinarians were able to intervene, Chewie the dog had become covered in fleas that had essentially ‘eaten [him] alive,’ leaving him with intense blood loss, chronic anemia (iron deficiency), and dehydration.

His fur was also covered in painful mats, and he’d endured significant muscle loss.

Experts said they had no choice but to euthanize the poor pup since his condition was too far gone, and he had already suffered too much.

6. Urge Arizona’s Senators to Vote No on Bill That Could Legalize the Killing of Migrants

Bill 2843 is one of the most reprehensible laws imaginable, and it’s advancing in the Arizona legislature right now. The bill would change existing Arizona law so that ranchers can shoot trespassers anywhere on their property.

As it stands, a person can only be justified in using lethal force if the trespasser is in their home or other residential structures and if they feel threatened. The new provisions would mean that people crossing land yards or even miles away from the owners’ houses could be killed in cold blood.

Arizona House of Representative Analise Ortiz, a Democrat who voted against the bill, made the chilling observation that it would authorize an “open season on migrants.”

Please sign this petition to plead with Arizona’s senators to vote NO on this inhumane bill!
