The New South Wales government is planning a new Great Koala National Park — but it excludes a vital forest that’s home to dozens of endangered species. The Bollanolla Range, inside Newry State Forest, is one of the richest biodiversity hotspots in the region, with confirmed sightings of koalas, sooty owls, squirrel and yellow-bellied gliders, and more than 35 other vulnerable species. Yet it’s being left unprotected — without even a proper environmental assessment.

Old-growth forests like Bollanolla are irreplaceable. Excluding it from the park leaves it open to habitat destruction, logging and construction — at a time when wildlife is already under immense pressure from Climate change. Adding Bollanolla would create strong legal protections and help secure a safer future for native animals.
