Nordic-Dutch climate tech company Paebbl has raised $25 million in a Series A funding round to advance its innovative technology that converts captured carbon dioxide into permanent, carbon-storing building materials. The investment was led by venture capital firm Capnamic, with participation from Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, global construction leader Holcim, and European industrial family offices including Aurum Impact. Existing investors 2050, Pale Blue Dot, and the Grantham Foundation also contributed to the round.

The infusion of capital will accelerate Paebbl’s efforts to scale up its operations and establish a sustainable value chain for CO2 storage in construction materials. By turning the built environment into a significant player in combating Climate change, the company aims to set new standards for sustainable construction practices. Paebbl plans to expand its existing hubs in Helsinki, Rotterdam, and Stockholm, and open a new facility in the United Kingdom.
“We are thrilled to welcome early leaders like Amazon and Holcim as commercial partners,” said co-founder and co-CEO Andreas Saari. “Their Support will help bring our vision to market rapidly. We have the chance to turn the built environment into the world’s greatest carbon sink.”
Founded in 2021 by entrepreneurs Andreas Saari and Jane Walerud, mineralization expert Pol Knops, and former venture capitalist Marta Sjögren, Paebbl has swiftly moved from laboratory tests to operating a pilot unit that produces 250 kilograms of CO2-storing product daily. In May 2024, the company reached a milestone by sequestering its first full ton of CO2 and casting its first concrete structures incorporating captured carbon.
Looking ahead, Paebbl is focused on commissioning a demonstration plant in the first half of 2025. This facility will increase production capacity to three tonnes of product per day, sequestering up to one ton of CO2 daily. “This funding enables us to take even bolder steps in our mission to make the built environment a cornerstone of the decarbonized economy,” said co-founder and co-CEO Marta Sjögren. “The challenge ahead is significant, but so is the opportunity.”
Capnamic Managing Partner Christian Knott praised Paebbl’s rapid progress and execution. “They have won multiple customers and key partners in a short time and have a continual stream of exceptional people joining the company,” he noted.
By leveraging a nature-inspired, technology-enabled mineralization process, Paebbl aims to make a substantial impact on climate change mitigation, turning buildings into long-term carbon storage solutions.
