Military veterans and fifth-graders in the United States will get free entry to national parks and wildlife refuges this year. As part of a new program, entrance fees will be waived until August 31, 2021, to make sure that every kid gets to participate in the “Every Kid Outdoors Annual 4th Grade Pass,” even in the pandemic.
Fifth graders and their families will have free access. U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt said in a statement, “The Trump Administration has made expanding public access to America’s national parks and public lands a top priority, especially during this year’s pandemic. Programming was limited at times for last year’s fourth-graders through the Every Kid Outdoors program, so we’re allowing this year’s 5th graders free access to our public lands throughout the 2020-2021 academic year. We hope these kids and their families take advantage of the incredible physical and mental benefits of getting outside and visiting a park, refuge or campground near them.”
Entrance is available to all lands managed by the Department of the Interior. Families and students can download their 5th grade passes online at www.nps.gov/kids.
Gold Star families and military veterans will also get free access from November 11, 2020, “With the utmost respect and gratitude, we are granting veterans and Gold Star Families free access to the iconic and treasured lands they fought to protect starting this Veteran’s Day and every single day thereafter,” said Secretary Bernhardt.
