A lot of unpleasant things come to mind when we think of drones, but they have many uses and can give a special perspective that’s impossible to achieve with traditional cameras.
This new drone footage of endangered blue whales in Dana Point, Calif., shows high definition imagery of whale activity that has never been captured on film before. The creatures’ majestic form is clearer than ever, thanks to the drone’s ability to zoom out at a distance and capture a detailed aerial view of whales and their young swimming gracefully among clumps of kelp.
Stay with the video until the end for a grand finale: a mega-pod of thousands of dolphins swimming alongside YouTube uploader Captain Dave‘s whale watching boat. This is truly a case of technology working for good rather than evil, and shows that the best place to watch whales and dolphins is in their natural environment, not a marine park.
