Firstly, biodiversity is responsible for providing various essential ecosystem services such as climate regulation, pollination, and soil health. These Services contribute to human well-being and provide economic development.
Secondly, biodiversity plays a significant role in regulating the Earth’s climate. For example, forests act as carbon sinks by storing carbon and, thus, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to Climate change.
Lastly, biodiversity plays an important role in protecting plant and animal species on Earth. Human activities such as deforestation and habitat destruction contribute to a significant decrease in biodiversity and, as a result, the extinction of many species.
To protect biodiversity, we need to embrace sustainable practices that reduce human impact on the environment. By protecting natural habitats, reducing Pollution, and conserving resources, we can ensure the continued health and well-being of our planet’s biodiversity. Yes, biodiversity matters–except when it comes down to acting on human overpopulation, which is smothering the planet to death not only with adding more unnecessary consumers to the planet but in sacrificing other-than-human sentient life and dignity whenever issues arise. Because humanity is the neediest of any species, always making more and more demands on other species, domestic and wild.
