In his latest bid to tackle the climate crisis, President Biden announced a pledge of $500 million to Brazil’s efforts to end deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. The announcement came during a virtual meeting with leaders of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, where the President called on other countries to increase their efforts to fight global warming. The United States aims to limit Global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by scaling up clean energy technologies and reducing carbon emissions by 50 to 52 percent by 2030.

Biden warned of the consequences of inaction, such as more severe droughts, floods, rising temperatures, and instability. However, the President acknowledged that he would need Congress to approve the international aid, which could pose a challenge with Republicans controlling the House. Biden emphasized the importance of supporting developing countries that are often the most affected by Climate change.
The President’s energy and climate goals include decarbonizing the energy and international shipping industries, reducing fossil fuel use, cutting methane emissions, and phasing down the use of hydrofluorocarbons commonly found in refrigeration and air conditioning. The Inflation Reduction Act and the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, both signed into law, will help the United States meet its goals.
The President’s announcement is a welcome move towards combating deforestation and preserving the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon is a crucial component of the global climate system, absorbing and storing vast amounts of carbon dioxide. Deforestation in the Amazon is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and a threat to biodiversity, indigenous communities, and the global climate.
While Biden’s plan may face challenges in Congress, it is not an impossible ask. Planting trees and stopping deforestation are policies that congressional Republicans have shown Support for in the past. To gain Support for his plan, the President could package it as a way to stop China from making further economic inroads in Brazil.

THE PRESIDENT HAS NO EMPATHY FOR THE ANIMALS TRAPPED ON FACTORY FARMS Joe Biden is defending the farmers instead of supporting Proposition 12, which would demand more room for them in their cages, crates, and pens. Biden is taking the side of the National Pork Producers Council and the American Farm Bureau Federation over the voters of California and the animals they seek to help. Weak Joe Biden is supporting the wealthy and powerful abusers whose greed denies animals the room to turn around in their cages.
