Thanks to PETA, Kikkoman Finally Will Stop Funding UW-Madison’s Cruel Animal Experiments

After PETA sent a persuasive letter to Kikkoman, the world’s largest soy sauce manufacturer, it has finally updated its policy for testing on animals.

Kikkoman will now not conduct, fund, or commission tests on animals for food and beverages, except, they say, when required by law.

In a huge win for animals, the company now will not fund the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Food Research Institute (FRI) and will no longer Support the testing of animals there. PETA pointed out that many terrors have come out of that lab, including experimenters force-feeding bacteria to animals before dissecting their bodies and many other horrible practices.

The experiments funded by Kikkoman included force-feeding rats fermented soy milk with tubes to assess its impacts. The poor animals were also force-fed soy sauce through surgically attached stomach tubes before being decapitated and having their brains removed. PETA also found that the company was force-feeding rabbits a high-calorie diet to induce heart disease, only to be killed later.

PETA has been pushing Kikkoman to end testing on animals for years now, and finally, the company is starting to listen. Kikkoman will now request that the funds that went to the FRI will go towards educational programs, special meetings, and administrative expenses.

In 2015, after a fiery PETA campaign, Kikkoman ended their long practice of force-feeding mice, rabbits, and other animals with soy sauce and other foods. They conducted these experiments to make human health claims for marketing their products.

Although many food companies are shifting away from animal testing (finally!), there are still so many companies that are using these unneeded and abusive experiments. The newest target of PETA is Ajinomoto Co. Inc. which still uses animals for research. Help PETA urge MSG Flavor Giant, Ajinomoto to End Horrific Tests on Dogs and other animals!
