It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.

There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including saving depressed, lonely elephants from zoos in which they’re confined to small cages and demanding justice for brutally murdered animals like a fox in Surrey and a dog in Arizona!

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

A video shows a tour guide in Phuket, Thailand pinning a baby elephant down and forcing him to stay in the water just so that a tourist can take photos of the terrified animal. Another tourist can be seen sitting on another elephant in the water for photos. These tour guides exploit the elephants for the tourism industry just to make some money with no regard for the feelings of the elephants. Also, the coral reefs have been damaged from forcing the elephants into the water. Sign this petition asking Thai authorities stop tour guides from using elephants this way!

Sunny the elephant has been alone at Nomi Ishikawa Zoo in Japan for 29 years! When it’s rainy and snowy, she’s forced to stay in her tiny concrete cell all day, where she spends most of her time. She is so bored and depressed, she makes dark marks on the walls with her trunk. Elephants are social animals that live up to 70 years. She doesn’t deserve to live like this. Sign this petition to save Sunny, so she may be sent to a sanctuary where she will be with other elephants, not in a tiny cage all day.

The greyhound racing industry is absolutely cruel, and one of the worst parts is the amount of dogs killed. Too many dogs are bred for the purpose of racing, way more than necessary. Then they’re tested and those who don’t seem good enough, are killed. In Ireland it’s illegal for anyone other than a vet to euthanize animals, but a company admitted to killing nearly 6,000 dogs. The department of agriculture in Ireland is set to give the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) about $19 million this year. This means the terrible industry will keep thriving, and dogs will keep dying. Sign this petition asking the department not to give the IGB money and asking the parliament to ban this “sport!”

The The Myrtle Beach Safari is a private South Carolina Zoo that has over 100 captive animals. Recently, a video of theirs went viral showing a chimpanzee scrolling through Instagram. The zoo does many things to exploit the animals for viral videos and publicity stunts. They’ve forced chimps to play football, taken them to see Tarzan in a theater, and more. This is a terrible message to send to children about animals. They’re not human, they’re different and should be respected as the animals they are. Jane Goodall has even responded by saying: “Social media videos and posts of this kind [drive] the illegal trade in chimpanzees and other great apes as pets.” Sign this petition asking them to stop encouraging the illegal trade in wild animals through Instagram!

They announced they were permanently ending the dolphin exhibition, but the four dolphins left were sent to a controversial location: St. Thomas Sea Sanctuary in the Virgin Islands. According to the Dolphin Project, they have “has faced heavy opposition and controversy mainly due to its location being vulnerable to extreme weather and frequent contamination with runoff.” Sign this petition asking that the dolphins be released to a safer sanctuary!

Hunting foxes with hounds has been banned for nearly 15 years in most of the UK. However, hunting parties still gather in secret. Recently, activists caught a group of riders with 30 to 40 dogs terrorizing the Peaslake village in Surrey. The hunting dogs tore through people’s gardens chasing the fox as the huntsmen looked on. The fox ran terrified but was caught hiding and torn to shreds in seconds. This type of hunt is a display of barbarism (on behalf of the huntsmen, not the dogs who were trained to do this). Sign this petition asking the Surry Police to investigate this case and prosecute those responsible.
