Animals exploited for entertainment and the tourist industry are forced into lives of captivity and unnatural behaviors. Just a few months ago, footage surfaced of a monkey being forced to lift weights and exercise in front of audiences in Thailand. Unfortunately, even during a pandemic, people are finding ways to abuse and exploit animals. A chimpanzee in a Thailand Zoo was forced to ride a bike and spray disinfectant for entertainment.
In a video, the chimpanzee is seen being told to put on human clothing, which is completely unnatural for a chimpanzee. Then he’s forced to ride a bike that sprays disinfectant around him, all while on a short leash. The chimpanzee is not only being exploited and abused — this is not the way a chimpanzee should live. But he was likely inhaling all the chemicals from the disinfectant around him.
The same zoo, Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo, received backlash for forcing a malnourished elephant to perform daily. The elephant was so skinny, she was called Bones.
All of this abuse is unacceptable. Sign this petition asking the Thai government steps in to close the zoo and rehome the animals to reputable sanctuaries.
