Patron, Famous Bomb Sniffing Dog Receives State Honor From Ukrainian President

Patron, an adorable 2-year-old Jack Russel terrier, received an honor from the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his hard work in the war. The bomb-sniffing dog helped Ukraine by sniffing out more than 200 explosive devices. He received state honors at a ceremony in Kyiv for his dedicated service.

“I want to award those Ukrainian heroes who are already clearing our land of mines. And together with our heroes – a wonderful little sapper Patron who helps not only to neutralize explosives, but also to teach our children the necessary safety rules in areas where there is a mine threat,” President Zelenskyy said during the ceremony.

According to the BBC, Russian forces have left buried land mines and bombs across the country.

Pictures and videos of Patron, whose name means “Ammo” in Ukrainian, have gone viral of the pup in a military protective vest searching through dirt and rocks for unexploded bombs.

Patron has developed quite the following and has racked up 236,000 followers on his Instagram account. Fans have created art of the pup, and a woman named Evelina Buyankova even got a tattoo of Patron on her arm.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also attended the ceremony, and Patron gave him a warm welcome (while also searching for treats in his pockets.) According to the S.E.S, Patron “was extremely happy to meet a true friend of Ukraine, even though Mr. Trudeau did not find a piece of Patron’s favorite cheese.”

The people who are staying or going to Ukraine and the borders are truly heroes and deserve praise for all they are doing!
