Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. 1. Tell Authorities to Implement Protocols for Human-Bear Encounters

Recently, a black bear showed up at a 2-year-old’s birthday party in Connecticut and took some of the cupcakes from the table. Luckily, no one was harmed, but these kinds of incidents often end up with the bear being killed by local agencies. With more than 8,000 black bear sightings already this year in Connecticut, it’s important protocols are put in place to protect both humans and bears. Please sign this petition to demand authorities create a public education campaign instead of killing more bears! 

2. Urge FEMA to Dole Out Hurricane Aid that was Promised to Puerto Rico

Five years ago, Hurricane Maria destroyed much of the infrastructure on the island of Puerto Rico and left many without power and water. The Trump administration notoriously did little to help the problem but FEMA allocated $3 billion to Puerto Rico to help mitigate future disasters. Since then, only 5 percent of those funds of been used to Support rebuilding projects. On top of that, authorities have let people further erode the coasts and build homes in protected estuaries. Please sign this petition to urge FEMA to finally dole out the aid that was promised to Puerto Rico! 

3. Help Bring Justice to Animal-Abusing Officer

After an argument with her boyfriend about her cats, a woman came home to find her cat shaking with fear inside his crate. She then noticed his feet were bloody and he couldn’t Support his weight. Soon after, her beloved cat died from his injuries, which included bruising of his organs and hemorrhaging. Her boyfriend, who happens to be a Sheriff’s Office deputy, was arrested for animal cruelty charges but it remains to be seen if authorities will fully prosecute the case. Please sign this petition to pressure authorities to bring justice to this sadistic animal abuser! 

4. Ask Officials to Charge Woman Who Murdered Dog and Remove Her License

A woman in Montana recently shot a Siberian Husky, skinned him, and then posted pictures of her smiling beside the corpse on Facebook. The woman, who had apparently mistaken the dog for a wolf, was lambasted on social media. However, she still insisted that she would have done the same thing again if given the chance. Whether the animal was a wolf or a dog, what this woman did was wrong and she should be punished for it. Please sign this petition to urge officials in Flathead County to revoke this woman’s hunting license and charge her with animal cruelty! 

5. Demand Justice for Man Who had His Eye Ripped Out by Police K-9

The Gainesville Police Department finally release footage of a traffic stop from July that resulted in a black man losing his eye. However, the footage had been edited, and probably for good reason. After being stopped, the man was frightened and he ran and hid behind some bushes nearby. The officers then decided to release their K-9, who found him and proceed to attack him and eventually rip his eye out of his socket. The police allowed this attack to continue for a while before finally intervening. On top of this, this K-9 department has recently sued been sued by a former police officer for systemic racism. Please sign this petition to demand there is an independent investigation regarding this horrible incident! 

6. Tell Authorities to Charge and Fire Officers Who Let a Woman Get Hit by a Train

A woman in Colorado was recently handcuffed and placed into a police car while the police searched her vehicle. A few minutes later, a train collided with the police cruiser, as the officer had decided to park on train tracks. The woman has sustained several serious injuries and is lucky to be alive. Please sign this petition to demand the officers involved in this incident are fired and charged with negligence! 

7. Pressure Victoria to Finally Ban Kangaroos as Pets

A kangaroo who was being raised as a pet in Australia attacked his human and was subsequently shot by authorities. Although having a pet kangaroo is illegal in Western Australia, where the man was located, it’s perfectly legal in Victoria. Kangaroos are generally friendly, but they also often fight each other to play or assert dominance. Please sign this petition to urge Animal Welfare Victoria finally ban kangaroos as pets! 

8. Urge Authorities to Fund Research About How to Prevent Whale Strandings

Last month, around 230 pilot whales beached themselves off the coast of Tasmania. This tragedy comes two years after the largest stranding event in the region, in which 450 pilot whales became stranded. Climate change has certainly played a role in this, as the whales need to swim further to find food sources and then become disoriented when they encounter the shallow slopes of the beaches. Please sign this petition to urge authorities in Australia to fund research about how to prevent future strandings like this! 

9. Ask Florida’s Hotels to Waive Pet Fees and No-Pet Policies for Evacuees

Hurricane Ian left many people without power and many others having to evacuate their homes. The damage that this storm has caused has been tremendous and some people with companion animals are put under more stress if they aren’t able to bring their animals to hotels. Rosen Hotels & Resorts has announced that it’s waiving pet fees for evacuees, and other hotels must follow their lead. Please sign this petition to urge Florida’s hotels to waive pet fees and no-pet policies for evacuees! 

10. Help Protect Wolf Family in Oregon

A wolf family with two pups was recently discovered in Oregon. The wolf population used to be much larger in the American west, but agriculture led to many of them being slaughtered, and their population took another hit when President Trump took them off the Endangered Species list in 2020. Wolfs play a key role in the ecosystem and should not have to live in fear for their lives from humans. Please sign this petition to urge authorities to protect this wolf family! 

11. Demand an Independent Investigation into Authorities Who Let Animals be

A man and his ex-wife were recently arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada on charges of animal cruelty. 300 dogs were seized from his property in terrible shape and crammed tightly together in small cages. There were also mass grave sites and 24 dead puppies stuffed in freezers. Dogs were starved, emaciated, maimed, and had broken legs, open wounds, and missing feet. On top of all this, documents show authorities had known about this for seven years but did nothing! Please sign this petition to demand an independent investigation into why these authorities let this horrific animal abuse happen!
