It doesn’t take much to make us feel all the feelings when watching a dog rescue video. Some rescues, however, prove to be especially touching to witness. Hope For Paws‘ most recent rescue, where they changed the life of a Pit Bull – who then thanked him in the most beautiful way – is one of such videos.
Hope For Paws received a text about a stray bleeding Pit Bull who desperately needed help. When the rescuers got to the dog, she was hiding under a car, terribly scared of people. The fear and anxiety were clearly visible in the dog’s eyes. The team tried to win the dog’s trust, but she was too scared to crawl out from under the car. Thankfully, she eventually calmed down and peeped out long enough for rescuers to fit her with a Lucky Leash.
Once in the car, she transformed into a totally different dog. She immediately put her head in her savior’s lap and then crawled up to give him a big hug and a kiss!
The dog, now named Leesa, turned out to have a big ruptured mammary mass on her belly. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor and was spayed. Afterward, she already had a foster home ready and waiting to welcome her. She is now waiting for her new family to give her a forever home!

Update: Leesa’s been adopted!

Kill all of them, is there any way we can spread this to all pit bulls?
Annie,
As an owner of two 6 yr. old Amer. Bull/Pit Bull girls, here\’s the best advice I can offer: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! Your boy MUST KNOW who the boss is. That\’s you, NOT HIM!! Teach him what is expected. Use a firm voice when he doesn\’t listen. He needs to know you are the leader, always. Never hit him!! Speak softly, be firm w/ your commands. There are many online resources to help you train him to be a lovely/gentle pet! Our girls are well socialized w/ people, kids & other dogs. They do not like cats, at all. Territory issue for them due to stray cats in our yard. Regular vet checks & vaccines are a must; especially rabies shot! Try classes at Pet\’s Supplies, or wherever low cost training is available. I believe any bully breed isn\’t a good idea for an inexperienced owner. It is imperative that you are able to control your dog. Put a leash on him & walk him in your yard until he learns to behave when walking on leash. He should learn to \’sit\’ on command, to not cross the street w/o you giving him permission. He should walk at your side, not in front of you! Use small treats to teach him what you want ~ sit, stay, down, COME!, etc. Reward his good behavior!! Praise him every time he does as asked. 14 mos. is still puppy stage. Takes upwards of 3 yrs. before he\’ll calm down some. MUST GET HIM NEUTERED!! If you don\’t do that, You are asking for trouble. Seriously! Check with local humane society for neutering & proper training. A well trained dog is a joy to live with. As you say he slips his collar, you need to buy a harness that fits his chest & underbody, a snug fit! Without training, I\’m afraid you\’re asking for trouble with living next door to young kids. Untrained, you have a potential disaster waiting to happen. If you love you pup, do what\’s best for him. TRAINING & NEUTERING, FIRST!! Good luck.
my son insisted on adopting an american bull dog/pit bull mix. We have never had a pet before. After we adopted him I immediately got on line to find out what was healthy to feed him because i was so scared of making him sick in any way. I got so involved in his nutrition & home cooking for him that I didn\’t do the same for training him. He is 14 months old and i am completely in love with him. I am scared because I read that the 2 breeds are both powerful as we know & that a first time pet owner should not get one. I know what your thinking, "why wouldn\’t you research BEFORE bringing him home?" My son insisted on adopting him & I left the rescue not knowing it was a pitbull. He actually looked like a sharpe\’. can someone who is knowledgable please give me some advice. I share a driveway with a family who has 2 little girls & just had twin boys. Last summer, I noticed the girls did not come out into their backyard to play at all. We have a gate seperating the 2 backyards but I don\’t trust that he can\’t or wont jump over it. I\’m terrified of walking him because he pulls so bad & has gotten out of his collar. I don\’t have the money for a trainer. I priced around & it\’s just too much.
Get yourself a "gentle leader" collar. It\’s the most effective thing I have ever used to stop a dog from misbehaving on leash. Mine used to pull out of his collar as well until I used one him. After only a few times, he got the idea of walking on leash. He hated it when I put it on him and rolled and rolled and scrubbed his face in the grass to try and get it off.
As far as training, check online and your phone book. I actually found a trainer that charged only $10/session but I learned ALOT! Main thing I learned about pits is keep an eye out for when they reach sexual maturity, some have had drastic personality changes when they reach that age.
Please don\’t be fearful of your pet. They can sense your fear and anxiety and react to it.
Hope this helps.
