Roads without wildlife crossings can be deadly for animals. While roaming through their habitat, an animal may accidentally wander into a road right in front of oncoming traffic. When this happened to a fawn, Wildlife Aid came to the rescue.
While people sometimes leave behind animals that they accidentally hit, these individuals knew to contact Simon so that the fawn had a chance to live. He did an initial evaluation at the site of the accident and then decided to take the fawn back to the Wildlife Aid facility. By morning, she was well enough to move to an outside pen!
Even though the fawn was improving, they kept a close eye on her to make sure she would be able to fend for herself once released. However, they couldn’t wait too long because the longer a deer is away from the wild, the more difficult it is for them to return.
The little fawn was able to stand and jump when the human rescuers approached, so they knew it was time for her release. At night, when there weren’t many cars or other humans around, they took her back to an area near where she was rescued with the hope that she would be able to find her mother. Once they set her down, she immediately sprung up and ran through the field. If it weren’t for the amazing work of these rescuers, who knows how this poor fawn would have fared. Thanks to them, she now has a chance to find her mother and live a complete life.
