Texas Family Discovers Unexpected Guinea Pig Baby

A Texas family’s pet setup took an unexpected turn when what they thought were two female guinea pigs turned out to include a surprise addition: a newborn baby guinea pig. The moment of discovery, captured on TikTok by Mady, the human, garnered over 4 million views. As Mady approached the cage, a tiny guinea pig emerged, prompting her astonished exclamation: “Hold on. That’s another guinea pig. Who had a baby?”

The twist in their furry family tale began when Mady rescued a guinea pig named Jessie from a neglectful situation on Christmas Eve. Initially presumed to be female, Jessie’s true gender revealed itself when Mady stumbled upon the unexpected baby during a cage cleanup session.

Reflecting on the oversight, Mady shared, “I never thought to double-check his gender. Some males have very obvious external parts and Jessie doesn’t. I did not know he was a boy until I went to clean out the cage and found their baby.”

Guinea pigs, notably, can reach sexual maturity as early as one month old but should not be bred until later. Their swift reproductive cycle, with a gestation period of merely two months and the ability to conceive shortly after giving birth, caught the family by surprise.

The newfound baby, affectionately named “Jessie Junior,” now shares a cage with his father. However, Mady soon realized that the mother guinea pig might be pregnant again. “We are watching her to see if she has more babies,” Mady said, outlining plans for a larger living space for the growing guinea pig family.
