Samsung has issued a recall for knobs on certain electric stoves, citing a fire hazard that could be triggered by accidental contact with pets or people. This recall affects around 1.1 million units of slide-in electric ranges with front-mounted knobs sold between 2013 and 2024.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported over 300 incidents where these knobs were accidentally activated, resulting in about 250 fires. In some cases, these fires caused significant property damage, injuries, and even pet fatalities. Samsung will provide free knob locks or covers to mitigate this risk.
The issue came to light after videos and reports showed pets inadvertently igniting fires by bumping or pawing at the stove knobs. Samsung has advised users to keep children and pets away from the stove and to ensure knobs are turned off after use. Customers can request the free safety covers by contacting Samsung directly or visiting their website.
While Samsung’s newer stove models include advanced safety features, including Wi-Fi alerts, the recall highlights the importance of remaining vigilant about stove safety, especially in homes with pets.
