Rescue Cat Returned for Not Getting Along with New Kitten

white and gray rescue cat lays in kennel at shelter

Five years ago, Gemini the rescue cat was adopted from the Ohio Pet Sanctuary. At the time, it seemed as though she had found her forever home. Gemini loves attention and was excited to be doted upon by her new family. However, in a heartbreaking turn of events, she was recently returned to the same sanctuary she was adopted from.

Although she loves attention from humans, Gemini does not get along well with other cats. So, when the family she lived with got a new kitten, the rescue cat resented having to share her humans’ attention. Heartbreakingly, Gemini was the one who returned to the shelter to be rehomed. Even after five years, the family still chose a new kitten over her.

Although it can be difficult to understand why this happened to Gemini, the Ohio Pet Sanctuary said in a follow-up Facebook post that they do not want her former family to be shamed. Instead, they want to remind people that if they are forced to give up an animal companion, finding a reputable, no-kill shelter or rescue with the resources to care for them is the best option. The shelter reminds us that shaming people can lead to an animal being abandoned or turned loose to fend for themselves.

Gemini received an outpouring of Support after her plight was shared by the Ohio Pet Sanctuary on Facebook. Many people expressed displeasure with her former family’s actions and hoped the sweet rescue cat would soon find a truly forever family. Hopefully, Gemini will soon find a home where she can enjoy gazing out of windows and receiving lots of attention.
