Puppies and Mom Found Tied Together and Crammed into Kennel

In Friendswood, Texas, the Three Little Pitties Rescue has witnessed firsthand the impact of backyard breeding, neglect, and lack of spaying and neutering, especially in cities like Houston. These factors lead to heartbreaking situations like the case of Persephone and her four puppies, who were found in a small, dirty kennel on a sidewalk in Cypress, Texas.

Melissa Fears from Three Little Pitties Rescue recalls the ordeal: “They were crammed into a tiny, filthy kennel left on a sidewalk. Persephone was tied to the kennel by a leash, unable to help her babies.” Left in these poor conditions, days went by before anyone intervened to free them.

Eventually, a woman staying in a nearby hotel, herself facing difficult circumstances, took action. She took the dogs in temporarily, hiding them in her room over the weekend before contacting the rescue for help. Three Little Pitties Rescue and foster carer Alexis stepped in to give Persephone and her puppies a haven.

The puppies were in rough shape—underweight, with anemia, ear infections, sores, and other health issues. One was so fragile that her survival seemed uncertain. “The sickest puppy couldn’t even stand; her body temperature was only around 90°F,” Fears explained. “We honestly didn’t know if she’d survive that first night.”

With dedicated care, however, all the puppies, including the weakest, pulled through and are now healthy enough for adoption. Persephone and two puppies are thriving with Alexis, where they’re learning what it means to be loved and secure. “The puppies would be perfect for an active family,” Fears shared, while Persephone is ready for a caring home where she can finally feel safe and cherished.
