Pilot and animal rescuer, Seuk Kim, lost his life in a plane crash on November 24 while transporting three shelter dogs to safety. The 49-year-old was flying a Mooney M20J from Maryland to Albany, New York, when the aircraft went down in Windham, New York. The crash claimed Seuk’s life and that of one of the dogs, Lisa, while the other two dogs survived and received veterinary care.

Lisa’s ashes were later flown to Seuk’s family in Virginia by a fellow volunteer pilot, Chris Moon, continuing a mission that was dear to Seuk’s heart. Seuk’s daughter, Leah Kim, 16, expressed the family’s deep connection to Lisa, saying, “He obviously cared enough about her [Lisa] to risk his life on an expedition to save her.” For the family, having Lisa’s ashes delivered was a symbolic way to honor Seuk’s legacy and dedication to animal rescue.

Seuk, who had always dreamed of flying, joined the Pilots N Paws organization in 2022. Known for his boundless generosity and love for animals, he carried out nearly two rescue missions a week, saving countless lives. Pilots N Paws commemorated his contributions, sharing that his work inspired many in both the aviation and animal rescue communities.

In her tribute, Seuk’s widow, Anna Kang, described him as her soulmate. “My husband Seuk Kim gained his angel wings doing what he loved. He was flying rescue dogs to Albany when the accident occurred,” she wrote. Leah also shared cherished memories of flying alongside her father on rescue missions, recalling his radiant joy when helping animals.

Seuk’s commitment to saving animals lives on through the countless lives he touched, both human and animal. His funeral service is set to take place on December 5, but his memory continues to inspire those who knew him to carry forward his mission of compassion.
