Newsweek Announces Its Pet of the Week!

Black tabby Maine Coon cat with leash

Jack, a one-year-old ginger cat from California, has captured hearts with his unexpected canine-like behavior. Jack’s journey began when he mysteriously appeared near his owner Jenelle Hardwick’s mailbox, emitting persistent meows that beckoned her attention.

“I heard a tiny persistent meow,” Jenelle said. Instantly enamored, she welcomed Jack into her home, where he quickly adapted and, perhaps surprisingly, began exhibiting traits more commonly associated with dogs. “He always thought he is a puppy because I treated him like a puppy,” Jenelle shared.

Jack’s puppy-like demeanor led Jenelle to leash-train him, transforming casual strolls into delightful neighborhood walks. Impressively, Jack even mastered tricks, including the endearing rollover. His story is a testament to the unique bonds forged between humans and their beloved pets.

As this week’s Pet of the Week, Jack joins a lineup of extraordinary animal companions, each with their own tales. From Hannibal, the English bulldog who found solace post-show-ring, to Sprocket and Rosie, the proud parents of a Jetsons-inspired litter, and Wiggle, the resilient tuxedo cat who triumphed against the odds, these pets remind us of the joy and companionship animals bring into our lives. And last but certainly not least, there’s Diesel, the charismatic Pomeranian from Alberta, Canada, whose unconventional charm and zest for life captivate all who cross his path.
