Amidst a furry controversy, an innovative café, touted as an ‘interactive customer experience,’ is under the scrutiny of Animal rights organizations. The Bunny Cafe, a brainchild of JoyGrab founder Kevin Grushkovski, lets customers enjoy a hot cup of coffee while petting adorable rabbits for $25 an hour.
The café was conceived with noble intentions—to educate patrons about bunny adoption and find these cuddly creatures new homes. Success seemed to be brewing as thousands visited, and ten rescued bunnies found forever homes.
However, not everyone views this as a sweet success story. Lejla Hadzimuratovic, the Bunny World Foundation president, decries the café as a “torture chamber,” alleging the exploitation of rabbits for profit. This sentiment is echoed by the Los Angeles Rabbit Foundation, highlighting the need to find more ethical, rabbit-friendly profit avenues.
While Grushkovski maintains that the bunnies are unharmed and insists on his plans for expansion, L.A. Animal Services has been alerted and is keeping an eye on the café operations.
