Monkeys in Crime: 7 Disturbing Real-Life Cases of Primates Used for Criminal Activities!

1. New Dehli, India

A group of trained monkeys were used to pickpocket unsuspecting tourists in crowded areas. The criminals manipulated the monkeys to steal wallets and other valuable items while distracting the victims. Luckily, the robbers were apprehended and justice was served. Below you can see monkeys stealing, though these are not the ones trained by the New Delhi robbers.

2. Dhaka, Bangladesh

Organized crime groups in Bangladesh were training monkeys to deliver drugs to addicts in the capital Dhaka. Police captured the monkeys after an anonymous call was placed to law enforcement. While the police did not manage to find the drug dealers, they did find codeine. 

3. Bangkok, Thailand

Illegal street vendors have been reported to use monkeys to steal food, drinks, and other items from unsuspecting tourists. The monkeys are trained to quickly snatch the goods and deliver them to their handlers.

4. Jakarta, Indonesia

Monkeys in Jakarta have been trained by criminal networks to snatch and steal mobile phones and wallets from pedestrians. This is often done in busy areas where the monkeys can blend in and create confusion.

5. Manwal, India

Shortly before a suspicious pigeon was found trying to transport messages between India and Pakistan and was detained for being a spy, a monkey was trespassing. It had crossed the border between the two countries, which were in a state of political unrest. Many suspected that the monkey was being used as a messenger or spy. 

6. Hartlepool, England

While this monkey wasn’t particularly trained in the art of espionage, he was convicted of it. During the Napoleonic Wars history books state that a lone survivor of a French ship washed aboard. Having never seen a monkey before, the townspeople assumed he was a Frenchman and hung him.

7. Texcaltitlan, Mexico

After a shootout in Texcaltitlan, Mexico between law enforcement and the Cartel 11 gang members died. In addition, a small monkey in a bulletproof vest was found on sight, presumably the “pet” of a dead gunman at the scene. 

The misuse of monkeys for criminal activities by humans is a distressing reality in various parts of the world. These seven instances highlight the depths to which some individuals will exploit animals for their own gain.
