When a litter of orphaned otter pups was found in the Philippines, their caring rescuer decided to take them in. Otters are born both deaf and blind, which would have left them utterly helpless to fend for themselves.
So, their new adoptive mommy set out to make them comfortable in a swanky little basket until they’re strong enough to be released back to the wild. Endemic to Palawan, where they were found, it’s illegal to keep a wild animal as a pet. Special permission was granted for this compassionate individual to step in as a temporary care provider since there was no organization available who could. Remember, always rely on professionals and go through the proper channels when attempting a wildlife rescue.
Fortunately for these sweeties, their new friend was able to care for them and had their best long-term interests at heart. You can keep up with their progress here.
NOTE: As an important note, do not try to help wildlife of any sort unless you are trained. Find a local wildlife rehabber/rescuer or veterinarian ASAP, or call a rescue hotline. Here are some that might help!
