As animal lovers, it can be hard to comprehend how any person could bring themselves to harm another living being. From people who starve dogs as revenge or put their pets in washing machines for social media videos, cruel people seem to be everywhere. Usually, these people are adults but in some even more horrifying cases, the perpetrators are children.
Second Chance Rescue recently shared a heartbreaking case from the Bronx, NY, in which a group of little hellions beat a stray cat to near death. According to a witness, the cat was viciously kicked all over his body, stomped repeatedly, swung by the tail, and laughed at. If it hadn’t been for a compassionate passerby who scooped the poor soul up and took him to a church, surely, Max would have died.

Second Chance Rescue was called in to save Max, and that’s exactly would they intend to do – no matter how bad the diagnosis. All the odds are stacked against him including a blood-filled bladder and anus, muscle breakdown, multiple broken ribs, fractures throughout his body, and more. Max is currently at a critical care vet, and he is lethargic, weak, and has lost all hope. He needs us to fight for him, to show him that life can be good and people can be kind.
This story highlights in the most unfortunate way the need to educate children about being compassionate to animals. Sadly, peer pressure and the idea that animals are “dumb” and beneath humans can lead many kids to act in ways they might not otherwise if they are taught all living things deserve respect. Knowing that there is a strong connection between animal abuse and violence against humans later in life is another very important reason we cannot take incidents like this one lightly.

These little BASTARDS SHOULD BE DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read a similar story that took place in Mexico. The children beat a tiny kitten to death. There was a video made by the vet who tried to save the little cat. He was horrified by what these children had done.I remember wondering how anyone could do such a terrible thing to an animal. The children in both of these cases, and their parents, need to take responsibility for these crimes. This is too horrendous of a crime to allow the children to go unpunished.
