There’s no doubt about it, when life presents obstacles, it’s nice to have a friend by your side. Friends provide emotional Support, give advice, and help guide you. This is no different for dogs, especially those that are injured and in shelters together. Take Fubu and Cheerio, for example. These two senior dogs both got dumped at the Pima County Animal Care Center (PACC) in Tucson, Arizona early last month.
Cheerio, is blind, and Fubu has become a seeing eye dog of sorts for him. They share everything: toys, foods, treats, kisses… Unfortunately, with such a strong bond, there can also be an overwhelming amount of empathy. According to PACC, Fubu has become extremely anxious for both himself and his new friend, and has even been given anti-stress medication to calm down. Since both dogs are seniors, and Cheerio’s sight is gone, the odds of getting adopted are definitely stacked against them.
Nonetheless, the animal welfare group, Team Up for Tucson (TUFT) has been tirelessly working to try to get these dogs adopted by one forever family so that they can stay together. They have been taking both Fubu and Cheerio out of the shelter for some canine training and recreation, sharing photos of them on their Facebook page, and making videos like the one seen above.
It’s hard enough being a blind senior dog, but having your one friend taken away from you is absolutely devastating. We applaud the effort of TUFT, and hope that these pups find a loving family to take them in soon!
