Releasing a rescued and rehabilitated animal back to the wild is a beautiful and bittersweet experience. This video from IFAW, the International Fund For Animal Welfare, shows the release of a harbor seal nicknamed Sea Salt.
Sea Salt was found back in July on the shores of Cape Cod with several severe injuries including parasites, a broken jaw, and swollen hind flippers. This little seal would have certainly died if rescuers hadn’t found him when they did.
After receiving surgery at the National Marine Life Center in Bourne, Massachusetts and some good old tender love and care, Sea Salt began to eat like crazy! He grew in size and strength for two months until he was ready to hit the waves again. Sea Salt was accompanied by two other seals named Juniper and Basil as well as over 400 supporters on his release day.
Although goodbyes are never easy, the people at IFAW know that it’s best and in the end the animals always come first! To learn more about IFAW and their many projects, check out their YouTube channel or click here.
