Using words, plenty of research, the occasional dose of sarcasm, and a whole lot of love for the planet, I aim to change the world for the better by sharing information and sparking discussions about some of Earth's most pressing issues. A graduate of Baruch College with a B.A. in Journalism and Psychology, I combine my knowledge of human behavior with my love for writing to help people realize the incredible power we all have to leave this Earth a little better than when we arrived. When I'm not writing, I'm exploring nature, finding (and eating) the best plant-based food New York has to offer, and going to as many concerts as I possibly can. Arnold Schwarzenegger may just be the most famous bodybuilder of all time. Just the mention of his name procures images of jacked, veiny arms, colossal weights, and of course a strong, sunglasses-clad terminator epically bidding farewell to his puny enemies. While many people have a hard time believing that people can follow a vegan diet and also complete physical feats or win titles based on strength, this notion simply has to be given a second thought when the muscle man himself endorses a vegan diet!
That’s right, Arnold Schwarzenegger is slowly eliminating meat from his diet and you know what? He feels fantastic! After being advised by his doctor to “get off the meat,” Schwarzenegger decided to make the transition. And considering that meat has been linked to cancer and heart disease, we’d say it’s a mighty good decision at that! Schwarzenegger also has partnered with James Cameron in conjunction with WildAid and the Chinese Nutrition Society to kick off a new campaign aimed at lowering the consumption of meat in China.
This isn’t the first time Schwarzenegger has endorsed plant-based diets, though. Last year, after the UN Conference on Climate change in Paris, Schwarzenegger spoke out publicly about the catastrophic environmental impact meat production and consumption cause and advised people to lower their consumption of meat. The former Governor claimed that if everyone in the world gave up meat at least once or twice a week, they could drastically slash carbon emissions. We’re with you on that one Arnold!
Nowadays, there is no denying the impact the animal agriculture industry has on the environment. This destructive industry currently occupies over half of the world’s arable land resources, uses the majority of our freshwater stores, and drives greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, this system causes rampant air and water Pollution, land degradation, deforestation and is pushing countless species to the brink of extinction. Yeah…it’s a pretty disheartening situation, to say the least.
Thankfully, awesome people like Schwarzenegger are helping shed light on how eating plant-based can help the planet – and also showing people that eating meat does not always equate to becoming strong. And that we can be making better decisions for our health which coincidentally will also help the planet! Sounds like a major win-win to us.
