With contemporary society’s fixation on gaining popularity on social media, people often take drastic measures to garner views and “likes” across various websites. This could be tolerable if not for the fact that many of these people exploit animals in order to reach a sense of pseudo-celeb status. One such person is Russian YouTuber and Instagrammer, Khizri Zapirov, who has posted several videos of himself throwing wild animals on his sleeping friends.
In the interest of shock appeal, Zapirov somehow acquires potentially dangerous wild animals like a half-grown lion cub, a yellow Burmese python, and a snapping crocodile, who he then throws onto sleeping friends while filming the chaos that ensues.
These “pranks” are neither humorous or harmless good fun. This type of reckless behavior poses serious risks to all parties involved, to both humans and animals. Additionally, it is highly suspect how Zapirov is acquiring these wild animals, who are most likely the result of the corrupt illegal wildlife trade.
A petition on Care2 has been set up to demand that YouTube and Instagram ban Zapirov’s videos. Tinder and Instagram made measures to combat the exploitation of wild animals on their sites in 2017, so it only makes sense for the photo-sharing site to ban these videos, and for YouTube to do the same. These videos send a wrong message to viewers and put the lives of people and wild animals at risk. If you agree these videos should be taken offline, please take a moment to sign the petition.
And please share this with your network as a reminder that animals are not ours for entertainment!

There is something wrong with people that they would consider harming nonhuman animals for \’likes\’ acceptable.
