South Africa is home to some of the most remarkable wildlife—even beyond the elephants, rhinos, giraffes and leopards that people know and love.  We need to Support Conservation efforts to protect these species and their ecosystems.

The African Wild Dog, one of the fiercest pack predators, is also one of the most compassionate species, known for sharing food among its elderly and sick.

Cheetah’s are the world’s fastest land animal, capable of reaching speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.

Baboon’s live in complex, hierarchical societies and dole out punishments for disloyalty.

And just offshore from the lions, giraffes, and elephants, South Africa’s waters are teeming with whales, sharks, penguins, and seals.

Killing off this wildlife is one of the greatest tragedies humans have ever caused, and the government needs to strengthen protections before it is too late to act.  As a step in this direction, Minister Creecy and her Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) have invited comments on a draft Policy Position on the Conservation and Ecologically Sustainable Use of Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Rhinoceros. The policy advances three species-management interventions and four trade-related interventions.  You can sign this petition supporting the policy, and you can also encourage the government to take more progressive action to protect people and wildlife.
