Introducing Yoyo! Yoyo is the calf of Yatta the elephant. If you remember from our last article on Yatta, she lost her own mother to poachers when she was just one month old. That is what makes this such a wonderful scene, just observing Yatta living a happy, fulfilling life with her two wild-born calves.
With the violence that Yatta witnessed at such a young age, as you can imagine, she is very protective of her sweet babies. Regardless of this fact, however, Yatta made the incredible decision to take Yoyo to see her old caretakers. The display is not only touching but shows just how much she trusts her dear friends. How adorable is little Yoyo?! Thanks to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT), this beautiful family will continue to thrive.
DSWT is dedicated to the rescue, protection, and Conservation of wildlife in Kenya. They also play a huge role in the fight against poaching with their own anti-poaching teams and community outreach programs. DSWT also embraces other methods of Conservation including safeguarding the natural environment, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and rhinos, along with other species that can ultimately enjoy a quality of life in the wild when they become adults.
