Hey, vegetarians and vegans out there: time to break out your lettuce dresses! Ok, only kidding…but, on the subject of style —  it looks like your dietary choices may not just be good for you, the Earth, and animals — you may also be considered en vogue these days, just because you’re making more conscious choices. A recent article published by The Guardian poses the question: is eating meat falling out of style?

The article goes on to discuss more conscious eating as a “hot” trend for 2014, citing studies that meat is falling out of favor for U.S. citizens in multiple ways.

What’s more, so many celebrities have joined the veggie ranks over the past several months and years (some with success, some others only for a fleeting time), including Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Pastor Rick Warren, Al Gore, Oprah Winfrey — all of which leads to making the “trend” even more fashionable.

“There’s something happening here, folks,” Mark Gunther, the article’s author, writes. “As environmental and health concerns grow, and as we become more aware of how animals are treated on factory farms, Americans are going to be eating less meat, better (ie, humanely raised) meat or no meat.”

While many of us make our food choices for reasons much deeper than any trend, it’s nice to see the idea of meat “falling out of style” — with any luck, the trend of meat-heavy diets will continue to decline in the U.S. as more and more see the values (of all kinds) of a plant-based diet.
