The only thing sadder than seeing a homeless dog, is seeing a homeless momma dog trying to take care of her puppies. Unfortunately, in Rajasthan, India, this is a common problem as people are unable to spay and neuter their pets and the pet population is out of control. It’s estimated that one female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in just seven years! Sadly, there will never be enough homes for so many animals, but there are a few rescue groups determined to help. When someone spotted blood on the pavement near where a mother dog and her puppies were nesting, they call in Animal Aid Rescue, an organization dedicated to providing treatment for India’s desperate street animals.
Workers arrived and quickly assessed the situation. The momma dog and her pups were living in a den of broken glass and filth, and she had a nasty cut on her paw. It would definitely need treatment, so they decided to take the whole clan back to the rescue. After two weeks, the doctors at Animal Aid Rescue decided that momma and her family were well enough to leave their facility. In a perfect world, there would be a family waiting to adopt all of them, but this is rarely the case.
Animal rescues all over the world including the U.S. are overwhelmed with the problems of pet overpopulation. Some have established long-term shelters in an effort to help while others have launched programs to sterilize street animals. In this case, neither of those options was available, but the workers wanted to give this little family one last gift, a testament to whatever kindness they could offer in such dire circumstances.
