A firefighter from Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue (SRFR) in Washington sustained an injury while helping save pets during a house fire near Lake Stevens on Friday evening.

The fire occurred in the 1900 block of Vernon Road and was reported around 6:45 p.m. According to SRFR, the homeowner returned to find smoke filling the garage but no visible flames. After leaving the door open to ventilate the area, they went upstairs, called 911, and attempted to save their pets. However, upon noticing flames outside a window, 911 dispatchers advised them to leave the home immediately.

SRFR crews arrived shortly after and began battling the fire while conducting a search for the trapped pets. By 7:08 p.m., they had the fire under control and successfully rescued three cats and a dog from the home.

During the response, a firefighter suffered a rolled ankle and was transported for medical care. Authorities have not provided additional updates on the firefighter’s condition or the extent of the fire damage.
