With the world’s already massive population expected to rise to 9.8 billion by 2050, there has been a growing concern for how the world will be fed on our current food system ruled by meat and dairy. Forward-thinking individuals are turning to plant-based food and meat alternatives like cultured meat as solutions to this imminent problem, and now a new documentary called Protectors of the Planet is showcasing five ordinary people across the world who are doing their part to create a better future for the entire planet.

The short film series was created in collaboration with World Meat Free Week, a campaign aimed at getting the general population to limit their consumption of animal products for the benefit of the entire world. This is great news considering industrialized animal agriculture is zapping the world of its land and freshwater resources (as well as leading many species to extinction) while creating harmful pollution that is making people sick and contributing to Climate change. Not to mention, industrialized animal agriculture is plagued with animal cruelty, directly linked to the rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria in humans, and believed to be the root of many health problems like heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

World Meat Free Week has a user-friendly website outlining the problems and solutions the world is facing in the food sphere. Check out their website here and use their nifty calculator to see how much energy and resources you and your family can save just by opting for plant-based options, even if only for a few meals a week.
