Millions of Americans will get relief on their energy bills as prices continue to skyrocket. The average electric bill in 2020 was $117.36 per month, according to the US Energy Information Administration. The average gas bill was $667 per year, according to the American Gas Association.
President Biden has announced a set of actions that will help millions of Americans struggling to stay afloat.
“As extreme heat continues to affect tens of millions of Americans, hitting low-income families harder than others, President Biden is implementing new programs to help maintain a consistent and affordable energy supply to cool their homes,” the White House said.
The six actions will be:
- Connecting Families to Low-Cost Solar Power: This will enable families in HUD-assisted rental housing to subscribe to local community solar where available.
- Connecting States to Low-Cost Solar Power: A pilot program called Community Solar Subscription Platform will connect solar electricity to low-income housing in states.
- Empowering Rural Housing Authorities to Save Families Money: The Department of Housing and Urban Development will launch an initiative to help small rural housing authorities make energy efficiency upgrades.
- Strengthening America’s Solar Workforce: The Department of Energy will give $10 million in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Advancing Equity through Workforce Partnerships.
- Sunny Awards for Equitable Community Solar: This new award program will recognize communities that are implementing the best community solar programs and projects that lower costs and increase access for families.
- Bringing New Federal Resources to Communities: The Department of Housing and Urban Development will convene stakeholdings in regions to highlight federal funding that can be used to Support public facilities and increase affordable housing supply that improves energy efficiency.
These are amazing initiatives that will help communities all over the country, work towards a renewable energy future, and finally lower energy bills!
