The latest TikTok craze is a homemade “healthy Coke” that’s made with sparkling water with a splash of balsamic vinegar. Some swear it takes exactly like Coca-Cola, but others say it’s horrible.
@mandyvjones @LaCroix Sparkling Water you should try this
The concoction was originally shared by TikT0k user Amanda Jones who said she learned about it from a pilates instructor. The video has been viewed over 6.1 million times, and other users are posting their reactions to their first “healthy Coke”.
One user, @healthylittlepeach, stitched a reaction video to her first taste. She took a sip and paused for a moment before saying, “Yall, that’s delicious.”
@mandyvjones #duet with @healthylittlepeach #healthycoke she likes it!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼
Others, however, have joked that Jones needed to “go to jail” for the drink mixture. One user said, “this needs to affect your credit score somehow.”
Duolingo commented, “how is this legal” while another user said, “Is that your coke” oh no it’s just my balsamic vinegar Lacroix”
However, many doctors and experts are warning people not to drink this mixture. The acidity in balsamic vinegar and carbonated water wears down tooth enamel. If you’re using flavored soda water and there’s sugar in it, then you might as well have a normal Coke.
While balsamic vinegar has been linked with lower cholesterol, weight loss, healthy digestion, improved blood circulation, and contains no fat and very little natural sugar, you may want to monitor how much vinegar you’re consuming. Balsamic vinegar has a pH of 2 to 3, which is considered highly acidic. Not only can this create or worsen acid reflux, but it may also irritate your esophagus or cause stomach pain if consumed by itself or in excess amounts. Considering that this “healthy coke” is around the same level of acidity as a full sugar Coke or a Diet Coke, you may be better off drinking the real thing, just in moderation, or swapping both drinks for a healthier alternative altogether.
