Ah, productivity. We all love a good productive day, don’t we? So why not fuel our bodies with foods that will help us go on to be productivity monsters? While there’s really no end-all be-all food that can zing you into productivity heaven, a little bit of these foods every day (or at least as much as possible) will help power your body for the task-checking-off you have in store for any given day. Load them up on your plate for plant-powered brain power that will keep you sharp and ready for productivity all day long!

  1. Eggplant

    Eggplant is not only delicious, but it can keep your brain sharp. According to WHFoods, “eggplant contains an anthocyanin phytonutrient found in eggplant skin called nasunin. Nasunin is a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger that has been shown to protect cell membranes from damage. In animal studies, nasunin has been found to protect the lipids (fats) in brain cell membranes. Cell membranes are almost entirely composed of lipids and are responsible for protecting the cell from free radicals, letting nutrients in and wastes out, and receiving instructions from messenger molecules that tell the cell which activities it should perform.” In other words, this stuff is great for the brain, helping it to function better on all levels.


  2. Bananas

    Bananas are the best, aren’t they? So versatile, delicious, and they come in their own package! What’s not to love? Well, get ready to love them even more. One banana can get your brain up for success. As reported via Business Insider, “researcher Leigh Gibson found that “the brain works best with about 25 grams of glucose circulating in the blood stream — about the amount found in a banana.”

     


  3. Raisins

    Raisins are such sweet little things, and they carry a nice punch of caloric energy. Ask Men reports: “Raisins are good for your brain because they are an excellent source of boron, a trace element that improves hand-eye coordination, attention and memory.”


  4. Blueberries

    It’s officially summer, so it’s prime time for a little blueberry action. This yummy treat also happens to be great for the brain. Ask Men explains: “Blueberries are packed with antioxidants and prevent the brain from experiencing oxidative stress.” So, when you’re trying to be productive, munching on blueberries can help thwart stress and keep your brain sharper so you can do even more.


  5. Dark Leafy Greens

    It wouldn’t be a solid One Green Planet list without mentioning our absolute favorite: dark leafy greens! But there’s just no denying their superpowers and therefore they must be mentioned. Psychology Today explains about dark leafy greens and the brain: “Leafy green vegetables are brain powerhouses because of all the B vitamins they contain, especially folate. Broccoli, collard greens, brussels sprouts, kale, and spinach are all superb sources of folate (as are carrots and yams). A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that eating leafy green vegetables helps keep your brain sharp well into old age.” And loading up on them now will keep you as productive as you can be today!
