Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Help Protect the Endangered Species Act, Demand China End the Dog and Cat Meat Trade, and Help Curb Climate change Before It’s Too Late.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Help Protect the Endangered Species Act

The Endangered Species Act has been one of the most important and effective pieces of legislation for protecting wildlife in our nation’s history. Despite this, several politicians are attempting to gut the Act by slashing its funding and removing protections for several species. Considering we are in the midst of a sixth mass extinction event, we cannot allow these changes to occur. Please sign this petition to protect and strengthen the Endangered Species Act instead of weakening it!

2. Demand China End the Dog and Cat Meat Trade

The infamous Tomohon Market in Indonesia has finally banned the dog and cat meat trade. This will save the lives of thousands of animals from being tortured and murdered for a meal. However, China continues to allow this brutal trade to exist. Please sign this petition to urge the Chinese government to end the dog and cat meat trade once and for all!

3. Help Protect the Amazon Rainforest

Environmentalists were excited when Lula de Silva defeated Jair Bolsonaro to become the president of Brazil. Lula promised that he would try and undo much of the damage caused by the former president to the Amazon Rainforest. This forest is a critical component of the health and well-being of humans and nonhuman animals alike. Please sign this petition to urge President Lula de Silva to enshrine the rainforest’s right to exist into law!

4. Call for an Investigation into Sherrif’s Office That Didn’t Respond to Animal Cruelty Complaints

Authorities recently discovered the bodies of 12 dead horses and 24 dead dogs at a property in Texas. The horses were found skeletonized and the dogs were in small cages without access to food or water. On top of this tragedy, 16 animal abuse complaints had been filed with the Sheriff’s office about this property since 2019, but the calls had been ignored. Please sign this petition to urge the Collin County District Attorney to investigate why the Sherrif’s office didn’t act!

5. Help Poorer Countries Defend Themselves Against Climate change

Even though rich countries are more responsible for Climate change and over-emitting greenhouse gases, poor countries often face the worst consequences. From severe droughts to flooding and other extreme weather events, poor countries are dealing with a lot. On top of that, they are also expected to implement green energy projects like the rest of the developed world. Please sign this petition to urge rich countries to pay climate reparations to help make this transition possible!

6. Pledge to Vote for Leaders Who Support Human Rights and the Environment

As midterm elections approach, Americans have an important choice to make. Republicans are more likely to ignore human-caused Climate change, be against abortion and LGBTQ rights, and are even willing to put children’s lives at risk by not voting for gun safety laws. On top of that, many Republican governors haven’t even shown up to debate their opponents, which doesn’t seem to be very pro-democracy. Please sign this petition to pledge to vote for Democratic leaders this coming election!

7. Stop Animal ‘Ecocide’ on the US-Mexico Border

The border wall at the southern edge of the United States has been a literal death sentence for many wild animals. Animals need to migrate to and from Mexico to breed, graze, find food and water, and migrate with the seasons. Cameras that have been installed around the border have shown many animals pacing at the wall, and one family of wild boars trying to find a way around it for five hours. Please sign this petition to tell the United States and Mexico to work together to build wildlife corridors along the border!

8. Help Curb Climate change Before It’s Too Late

Climate change is real and happening now. Species are dying off, habitats are being destroyed, food is being depleted, and droughts are becoming more and more common. The United States needs to take immediate action and invest in and promote sustainable projects. Please sign this petition to urge the Biden Administration to commit to its climate promises!

9. Tell the UK to Prioritize Animal Welfare

The UK Government has made several promises over the last few years that it would prioritize animal welfare. However, after its exit from the European Union, new trading arrangements are about to be made that would confine animals to extremely cruel conditions. The trade deal would import eggs produced from hens raised in battery cages, which are so small that the chickens can’t even stretch their wings. Please sign this petition to urge the UK to ban battery egg imports!

10. Tell Legislators to Support Bill That Will Help Prevent Pandemics

While we may still not know the origins of covid, it’s almost a virtual certainty that we will face another more serious virus because of animal agriculture and other animal use industries. Confining billions of animals yearly to live in their feces and urine is a perfect breeding ground for infectious diseases, and the transport of animals plays a large part in that. A new bill was proposed that “would prohibit the import, export, and interstate trade of live wildlife for the purpose of human consumption.” Please sign this petition to urge legislators to pass the Prevent Future Pandemics Act!
