Ashley said, “So I ended up having to do this dye twice. The first time, I brought my brown hair up to about a 7 before doing the purple. My hair did NOT come out purple, it came out a grayish brown. So I rebleached, managed to get it to about an 8, mayyybe 9 before I had to stop to protect my hair, and the purple mostly took to that! I know the dye is strong and pigmented though because it ABSOLUTELY dyed my skin lol. I’ll totally try more of this brand, but I’m going to be more careful with how far I take the bleaching process next time. The directions aren’t lying when they say that you need really light hair for this color.”

3. Arctic Fox

ARCTIC FOX Vegan and Cruelty-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Color Dye is available in 23 striking colors, including neon green, purple AF, and sunset orange. Known for its vibrant hues and long-lasting results, this hair dye is for those looking to make a bold statement. It’s priced at $11.99.

Brittany said, “I LOVE this hair dye. It doesn’t damage your hair, and it comes out a beautiful color. Just be careful because it WILL stain your bathtub/sink or other surfaces, so just make sure to cover the areas up the best you can. Also, put Vaseline or whatever around your hairline so it doesn’t stain your skin! I have naturally dark brown hair, but it was bleached blonde. My roots were dark when I used it, so it didn’t really show up on the dark hair. I used it a couple of months ago, so it isn’t as vibrant as it was when I first dyed it, but you can still see the color. I definitely recommend this to anyone with lighter hair.”

4. Adore

Adore Semi Permanent Hair Color provides a gentle, chemical-free option for vibrant hair. This vegan and cruelty-free dye, priced at $13.25, is free from alcohol, peroxide, and ammonia, making it gentle on both hair and scalp. Embrace vibrant shades like purple without the worry of harsh chemicals.

Jennelyn Dao said, “My hair was a level 9-10, with about an inch of natural black root, and I previously had Adore Titanium which faded about 23 days. I wash my hair once a week and the titanium faded to a silver before I decided to go for mystic gray. Mystic gray has more of a blue undertone and I’d say titanium has more of a purple undertone. My hair length is about 18-20” and I used half of one bottle and mixed it with white conditioner. It was enough for my hair, as my hair isn’t as thick as it used to be, but not that thin either. I left it on for 20 minutes without heat and applied it on dried hair. It’s definitely darker than titanium but I like the blue undertone. I can’t wait to see what it fades to (:

I previously used cotton candy and lavender and I loved it every time. Faded nicely too before I decided to go back to one color/silver.”

5. Herbatint

Herbatint Permanent Haircolor Gel offers a natural, alcohol-free formula that provides 100% gray coverage. This vegan hair color, listed as Amazon’s Choice, is available for $16.99 and comes in a variety of natural shades such as Swedish blonde and chestnut. Trusted for its gentle and effective results, it’s a great option for those seeking a more natural hair coloring experience.

Angel said, “I have long (about three inches past my shoulders) fairly thick hair, and my “greys” come in stark white, which really stands out against my dark-colored hair. I’m about 35% white-haired, primarily around my temples and in my part line, and I was coloring my hair every 4 weeks with other box brands when I decided to give this one a try. First, I can easily get two applications from this one box: you just measure out what you need and mix, and then you can store the unmixed remainder until you need it next. (Anything leftover that’s been mixed has to be discarded though.) Since I don’t color all the hair on my head but mainly just the roots around my temple and part, there’s plenty for two applications. You do need a few extra tools to make things easier, like a mixing bowl and a brush, but I was already using those anyway. I don’t love the smell, but it’s not overly harsh like box dyes were 10 years ago. It would be great if they could add an oil ampoule or something to scent it a little and remove some of the chemical smell. Having said that, I find the color lasts a lot longer than my usual box dye, and I can go 6, sometimes as long as 8 weeks, before really needing to dye my roots again. Great product!”

Patricia Gilroy said, “This is my first time using a truly clean dye. I could immediately tell as I was dying my hair that it was different. Very soft feeling. I also like the result. My hair just felt different when compared to the products I buy from the drugstores. It takes longer to apply but it’s worth it. I wish it was cheaper though.”

Cynthia said, “I love the henna. No peroxide, no ammonia. I was looking for hair color that was not 2 step process. I did not want my hair bleached out and then colored because when the color wears off it does, no matter how well you follow instructions. Henna just adds color with no chemicals. No hair color is permanent but the henna is perfect for me and it’s not expensive”

Good Dye Young Streaks and Strands Semi Permanent Hair Dye provides UV-protective, temporary hair color that lasts between 15 to 24+ washes. This conditioning dye is PPD-free, vegan, and cruelty-free, making it a gentle yet vibrant option. Available for $9.98, it comes in neon shades of every color.

Kayla said, “I originally had red from a previous color and used the GDY Bleach kit for a bleach bath and to bleach my roots. The pink definitely covered the remaining color. The next picture is my hair wet after washing the color out. The second picture is a few days later (yes I did straighten just my bangs, don’t judge). The last picture is a week past coloring and I had a blowout from the salon; hair was washed with Olaplex, I think this caused the roots to fade some (you can’t really tell in this picture). But it’s either the Olaplex or the heat that is causing the color to disappear? I wouldn’t say fade since it hasn’t bled on my pillow or clothes.

The formula is thicker than I’m used to; definitely buy multiple boxes if you’re curly or thick-headed. I used two boxes just for my one side”
