Actress Demi Moore always stuns fans. Indeed, many cannot believe that the actress is 60 years old! She looks only a fraction of that, which she credits to a few things. Famous for acting roles such as Ghost, St. Elmo’s Fire, Indecent Proposal, and Charlie’s Angels Full Throttle, the gorgeous brunette movie star has always been admired for her enviable physique.
However, Moore has revealed that in her 20s and 30s, she did not have the healthiest relationship with food and exercise. Roles that put her body on display made her feel scrutinized and she felt the need to exercise aggressively and eat restrictively to maintain her body. Fortunately, Moore was able to recover from this behavior. These days she has adopted a more balanced approach to exercise and eating.
After years of high-intensity workouts, Moore began practicing Bikram yoga. Eventually, the star even became a certified yoga teacher. She earned her yoga teacher’s credential in Kundalini yoga. This form of yoga focuses heavily on breathwork accompanied by physical postures. Moore has also added other fun forms of exercise, including at-home cardio dance classes. She has also been seen leaving Pilates classes with her daughters.
Along with embracing more low-impact exercises, the lovely Demi Moore has adopted a raw vegan diet. Raw vegans do not cook foods and instead focus on meeting their nutritional needs with foods that are safe for consumption without cooking. Additionally, she does not drink after struggling with substance abuse issues.
While these lifestyle adaptations sound amazing and seem to be working wonders for Moore, she has discussed one other beauty practice which seems much less appealing. On a 2008 Letterman appearance, the brunette beauty talked about getting leech facials. This hotly debated practice involves taking medical leeches and placing them on the body to feed. The blood is then extracted from the leeches and applied to the face. Other celebrity proponents include Miranda Kerr. These facials are hotly debated in the medical community and should be a concern for animal activists as well.
Leech facials are not vegan. Not only is extracting the blood harmful to the leeches but the invertebrates cannot be used for more than one facial. This means that they are usually killed after a facial (although apparently, Kerr keeps the ones used on her in her home’s koi pond). Hopefully, Moore has stopped receiving leech facials since adopting a vegan diet.
Leeches are not the only animals used for beauty. Every year, millions of animals are subjected to torture as part of the cosmetics industry. Sign this petition to Ban Cosmetics Testing on Animals!
