Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Urge the United Kingdom to Ban Animal Snares, Demand Iceland Ban Commercial Whaling, and Demand Houston Legislators Strike Down Ban on Feeding the Homeless.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Tell Nebraska to Pardon Woman Who Provided Abortion Pills to Her Daughter

A woman in Nebraska has been charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor for helping her 17-year-old daughter have an abortion. The daughter, who was legally a minor at the time of the abortion, is now being charged as an adult. She faces up to two years in prison. As if all that wasn’t enough, police secured evidence by looking at the mother and daughter’s Facebook messages. Please sign this petition to demand Governor Jim Pillen pardon this woman and ensure she and her daughter are given access to therapy and Support!

2. Urge the United Kingdom to Ban Animal Snares

Wales is on the verge of becoming the first nation in the UK to ban animal snares. There are almost 250,000 snares set up in the British countryside. Animals suffer tremendously when these traps tighten around their limbs, and they can die very slow and painful deaths. On top of that, snares are indiscriminate and can trap any animal who is unlucky enough to step on one. Please sign this petition to urge the rest of the United Kingdom to ban snares!

3. Urge Authorities to Prevent Future Whale Deaths

Recently, beachgoers at Cheynes Beach in Western Australia were met with a horrific sight. Nearly 100 long-finned pilot whales mysteriously beached themselves. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, either. Mass strandings of whales in Australia are not uncommon. Just recently, 54 whales died on a beach in Scotland under similar circumstances. These incidents highlight the critical need for research into this string of bizarre whale behavior to prevent future tragedies. Please sign the petition to urge the International Whaling Commission to invest in researching these mysterious whale deaths to prevent future tragedies!

4. Tell Congress to Protect Endangered Species

The Endangered Species Act has been one of the most important and effective pieces of legislation for protecting wildlife in our nation’s history. Despite this, several politicians are attempting to gut the Act by slashing its funding and removing protections for several species. Considering we are in the midst of a sixth mass extinction event, we cannot allow these changes to occur. Please sign this petition to protect and strengthen the Endangered Species Act instead of weakening it!

5. Demand Iceland Ban Commercial Whaling

Vacationers on a cruise ship were reminded of the horrors of whaling when they took port at the Faroe Islands amid a whale slaughter. The 1,000+ passengers entered the bay to find red waters and whalers rounding up the majestic animals to be hunted.

Whales are incredibly intelligent, playful creatures. They communicate and socialize in complex ways, and some whales are even known for producing bubble rings or bubble nets to forage for food. These magnificent sea creatures can feel pain and deserve safety from brutal slaughter for profit. Please sign this petition to demand that Iceland ban commercial whaling!

6. Tell the Chinese Government to End the Dog and Cat Meat Trade Once and for All

The infamous Tomohon Market in Indonesia has finally banned the dog and cat meat trade. This will save the lives of thousands of animals from being tortured and murdered for a meal. However, China continues to allow this brutal trade to exist. Please sign this petition to urge the Chinese government to end the dog and cat meat trade once and for all!

7. Demand Houston legislators Strike Down Ban on Feeding the Homeless

Imagine spending hours preparing delicious, wholesome meals for people who are unhoused and hungry, only for the local government not to praise you, but to punish you. That’s exactly what happened to members of Food Not Bombs in Houston, Texas. Over several weeks, police have cited the group at least 29 times – and the citations list the violation as “feed(ing) homeless.”

Each ticket costs the volunteer-run group $2,000, adding up to a total of $58,000 that they owe the city. Imagine if all that money could instead be used to feed more hungry folks. The Houston area ban on feeding unhoused people is over a decade old and does nothing to meaningfully address the number of people without shelter in Houston. It simply makes the problem worse: not only do these folks not have a place to live now, but they are also forced to be hungry, too.

Please take a moment to sign this petition to demand Houston legislators strike down this inhumane ban!

8. Urge Officials in OKC to Ban Animal-Abusing Couple from Ever Living with Animals

Around 3:30 pm, two people entered a Petland pet store in Oklahoma City. One of the individuals walked up to a cage with a parakeet inside, reached it – and broke the trapped animal’s neck. Next, they headed to an enclosure with rabbits and strangled a bunny with their bare hands. Before fleeing the store out into the broad daylight, the pair made sure to steal a guinea pig and a hamster. Please sign this petition to urge officials in Oklahoma City to ban these individuals from having animals and mandate counseling sessions!

9. Urge More Animal Shelters to Have Live Music Performances to Help Calm the Animals

A young boy in Texas recently discovered a new way to provide calm and kindness to orphaned shelter pets. The answer: go in and play them live music! This boy’s idea was ingenious, kind-hearted, and extremely effective at reducing stress for caged animals. Please sign this petition to urge more animal shelters to follow suit!

10. Demand an Investigation into Sherrif’s Office That Ignored Animal Cruelty Complaints

Source: FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth/YouTube

Authorities recently discovered the bodies of 12 dead horses and 24 dead dogs at a property in Texas. The horses were found skeletonized and the dogs were in small cages without access to food or water. On top of this tragedy, 16 animal abuse complaints had been filed with the Sheriff’s office about this property since 2019, but the calls had been ignored. Please sign this petition to urge the Collin County District Attorney to investigate why the Sherrif’s office didn’t act!
