Leslie Irvine, PhD, teaches sociology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her research focuses on the roles of animals in society. Leslie has studied selfhood among animals, animal sheltering, human-animal play, and the feminization of veterinary medicine. Her books include If You Tame Me: Understanding our Connection with Animals and Filling the Ark: Animal Welfare in Disasters. She is currently working on a book about pet ownership among the homeless. She also teaches The Sociology of Animal Abuse for the Animal Studies program at Humane Society University.
